News from the 2023 Carol Weymuller Open

Home Favourite Fiechter To Lead Carol Weymuller Open Draw (PSA World Tour)

World No.10 Olivia Fiechter will be the top seed at the 2023 Carol Weymuller Open when the PSA World Tour Bronze level tournament takes place from January 11-15 at the Heights Casino in Brooklyn, United States.

Fiechter, the US No.2, made it to the final of the Malaysian Open Squash Championships in November, and she will be aiming to go one better in Brooklyn as the top seed, for what would be the biggest title of her career.

The American will receive an opening round bye, before then taking on either England’s Millie Tomlinson or Egypt’s Zeina Mickawy in the last 16. Possible meetings with England’s No.8 seed Lucy Turmel and Egypt’s World No.14 Salma Hany would come prior to the final, if she was to go that far into the tournament.

England’s Georgina Kennedy, the World No.12, will be the No.2 seed for the competition, and is seeded to face off against Fiechter in the final in Brooklyn. If the Englishwoman is to get that far in her first appearance on tour since the MARIGOLD Singapore Squash Open, then she will have to get the better of the woman who beat her at the OCBC Arena that week – Sabrina Sobhy.

First, though, Kennedy will take on either Scotland’s Georgia Adderley or Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim in the second round, before a possible meeting with No.6 seed Mariam Metwally. USA’s Sobhy, the World No.15. would be her semi-final opponent in Brooklyn if all goes to seeding.

India’s Joshna Chinappa will make her return to action after more than seven months out. The former World No.10 made her last appearance on tour at May’s CIB PSA World Championships in Cairo. She will be the No.7 seed for the event and will face either Egypt’s Hana Moataz or Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica in the second round.
